The Banana Pudding Candle: Dessert You Don't Have to Share

Banana pudding is the dish that disappears first at every cookout. Layers of vanilla custard, soft banana slices, wafers that go a little cakey, and a cloud of something sweet on top. Nobody brings it home.

Wax and Wix Bakery wanted to bottle that moment, the one when you walk into the kitchen and the whole room smells like something good is happening. That's where their Banana Pudding Candle came from.

It smells like the real thing

The scent opens with ripe banana, the soft and sweet kind, not the sharp candy version. Underneath, there's creamy vanilla pudding, a hint of caramelized sugar, and a buttery note that brings the vanilla wafers to mind. Put it all together and it smells like a fresh bowl of banana pudding with a meringue top.

All of their fragrance oils are custom-blended in-house, so you won't find this exact scent anywhere else. And since their soy wax blend is made to hold as much fragrance as possible, it fills a room. One customer told them her boyfriend constantly says her room smells like a bakery. She was buying her second one before she'd even finished writing the review.

It looks like the real thing, too

This isn't a plain jar candle with a banana on the label. Each one is built in layers, just like the dessert.

It starts with a solid banana-yellow base, followed by a layer of wax crumbles. On top, there's whipped wax piled high and finished with wax banana slices, vanilla wafers, and more crumbles. It's the kind of candle people pick up and look at before they even smell it.

Because every candle is poured and decorated by hand in small batches, no two are exactly alike. Yours might have a few more crumbles or a slightly different slice arrangement than the one in the photos. That's the handmade part.

How to get the best burn

This is a large 13 oz candle with roughly 90 hours of burn time, so a little care goes a long way.

On the first burn, let it go until the melted wax reaches all the way to the edges of the jar, usually two to three hours. This prevents tunneling and helps the rest of the candle burn evenly. Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each light, and never leave it burning unattended.

If you'd rather skip the flame entirely, you can use it with a candle warmer instead. A warmer actually gives you a stronger scent throw and a longer life out of the candle, and you won't have to worry about whether you remembered to blow it out. Wax and Wix Bakery also sells warmers in their shop, and they double as coffee mug warmers.

When the candle is finished, don't toss the jar. Wipe out the leftover wax with a paper towel, wash it with soap and water, and use it for cotton balls, makeup brushes, or a small plant.

It's ready to give

Every candle is shrink-wrapped to lock in the scent and arrives in a white gift box with tissue paper. Wrapping is basically done for you, which makes it an easy gift for birthdays, housewarmings, teachers, or the friend who always brings the banana pudding.

With the holidays coming up, it's worth knowing that buying three items saves you 15%, and orders over $35 ship free. Every order also comes with a free sample, so you can try another scent from the shop.

Why people keep coming back

The Banana Pudding Candle has 78 reviews and a perfect 5-star average, and it's been favorited more than 2,300 times on Etsy. Reviewers keep coming back to the same few things: it looks beautiful, it smells amazing, and they plan to order again.

Wax and Wix Bakery is a small, family-owned business in Erie, Pennsylvania, and every candle they make is poured by hand.
